Self guided tour of Florence

In the morning we had a loveley buffet breakfast overlooking the city of Florence from our hotel dinning room, then it was off to explore Florence...
We first went to the Academie to see Micheal Angelo's "David" and his unfinished "Slaves".... very impressive and one of Rob's highlights of the trip so far and mine too. The we headed down the street to the Duomo. Rob and I are chatting and all of a sudden we come to the end of the street and I look around the corner and Wham! I an at the foot of the Duomo... what an awesome sight looking up at the size of the Duomo I feel like a tiny speck. I had read it was large and we could see if from out villa miles away but I was not prepared for it's enormity. Breathtaking really when you think it was built beginning in 1296 and took 140 years to complete. We took alot of picturese then carried on towards the river, crossed pont vecchio and headed up to the Piazza de Michealangelo.
It was quite the walk but once we reached the top, what a view! Florence layed out in front of us as the sun was beginning to set. There was a fantastic open air cafe on the lookout over the city so we grabed a table and ordered our first Italian Pizza and 2 glasses of Pinot Grigio. What a way to finish off a perfect day! Mucho Bene...IMG_1021.jpgDavid_3.jpgIMG_1000.jpgIMG_0999.jpg
